Putting together a great outfit never just happens. It takes a lot of thought and attention to detail to make a fabulous ensemble. For today’s look I’m used two of my favorite styling strategies to create this outfit…repetition and pop of color.
Repetition is perfect for creating a cohesive feel. By taking one element and repeating it in a slightly different way, the ensemble gets pulled together and looks very well thought out. Using my look as an example, by pairing a snakeskin handbag with a similarly printed tee, but on a larger scale, the teamings play off of each other and feel cohesive. It’s important when using repetition that the pairings aren’t too matchy-matchy. They should be similar, but should be of a different scale, texture, color, or print. I added moto jeans into the mix because I felt the texture on the knees played off of the snakeskin bag and abstract zebra print tee very well, but in a more subtle way.
Now let’s talk about the pop of color. I could have very well opted for a black shoe and the results would have been just as chic, but I really wanted to add an unexpected element into the mix. The outfits that I personally get most excited about are the ones that surprise me. By choosing a deep burgundy shoe the outfit becomes even that much more interesting. Lots of times when we think of a pop of color we expect it to be bright, but I don’t think that has to always be the case. I think any color other than a neutral can count as a ‘pop’ even if it is more subtle.
