Office Neon

May 20, 2013

Wearing neon to the office can be tricky, but it is possible to sport this high fashion trend and still look like you mean business.  Although this look won’t fly in conservative offices, it is entirely appropriate for creative work environments.   To help you get started, I compiled a few guidelines that will keep you looking chic:

  1. Remain Classic.  Whether you choose a neon shoe, top, pant, or skirt keep the look modest and classic by investing in only timeless styles in these bright colors.  A classic style button down, trouser, or pump will ensure your look is sophisticated and office appropriate.
  2. Use Sparingly.  A little goes a long way so limit the amount of neon to one or two pieces in the outfit.  In general, if you choose to go bold with a top, pant, or skirt limit your neon to just that one statement piece.  If you wear fluorescent in the form of an accessory such as a pump, handbag, necklace, or belt limit the bright pieces to two per ensemble.
  3. Keep it Neutral.  Keep the look elegant and toned down by pairing it with neutrals such as black, white, tan, grey, or navy.
